AIRTRAIN CONSTRUCTION REACHES MILESTONE AT JFK
Terminal-To-Terminal Links & Access To The 'A' Train Reach Halfway
Mark
Construction of a major component of the Port Authority's AirTrain project, which will provide fast, dependable access to JFK and from terminal to terminal in the airport, has reached the halfway mark, Port Authority Executive Director Robert E. Boyle announced.

Construction of AirTrain, the 8.1 mile light rail system that will link JFK International Airport with off-airport transit connections. |
Mr. Boyle said that the construction is half-complete on the on-airport segments of AirTrain. They will link the airport's terminals, and extend to the Howard Beach Station of the A Train. "On-airport, we've driven 85 percent of all the piles, completed 70 percent of the pile caps, finished 60 percent of the main support columns, and erected 22 percent of the actual guideway," Mr. Boyle said. "We've made excellent progress in 15 months." Mr. Boyle said the on-airport segments of AirTrain will be completed in late 2002. The link to Jamaica Station will be completed in early 2003.
Construction of AirTrain began in September 1998. The 8.1-mile light rail system will link the airport passenger terminals to one another and to long-term parking lots, rental car areas and off-airport transit connections. It will connect to the Howard Beach Station of the A Train and to the Jamaica Station transportation complex, where passengers can change for the Long Island Rail Road, the E, J, and Z subway lines, and more than 40 bus lines.
Mr. Boyle also said the prepartory work began in October 1998 on the Jamaica leg of the project. An additional temporary traffic lane is being created in each direction of the Van Wyck Expressway so that full roadway capacity can be maintained during peak periods.
A team comprised of Bombardier Transit Corporation, Slattery Skanska, Inc., Perini Corporation, and Karl Koch Erecting Company, Inc. was awarded the $930 million contract to design and build AirTrain. The Port Authority also awarded the group a $105 million, five-year contract to operate and maintain the system, with two additional five-year renewal options.

| Donna Jabbour, President of TNT Industries, Inc. |
When Donna Jabbour, President of Queens-based TNT Industries, Inc. was asked how she got involved in construction, she replied: "Construction seemed to follow me wherever I went." Now, ten years later, Donna follows construction opportunities wherever they might lie. Donna found her way into construction supervising major renovations at retail stores that she managed. That experience eventually took her to Palm Beach where she assisted in the successful opening of a new Gucci store. "I ended up learning the construction business by accident!"
"One of the best places to acquire leads is at ASDO's annual Aviation Networking Conference. Each year, ASDO sponsors highly successful business 'match-making' event when it gathers over 100 aviation representatives, elected officials, community organizations and technical assistance providers to meet with Queens business representatives, like TNT Industries. I'm always pleasantly surprised at how many potential clients I meet at this informative event."
But, running a successful general contracting company, especially at JFK International Airport, is no accident. "An MBA and more than 10 years of construction experience hve taught me a basic fact of business life: Smart clients want more than just fair value for their construction dollars. At JFK Airport, they also want a construction partner who delivers total satisfaction with top-quality work, on-time performance and a hassle-free' project." TNT's wide range of services includes material handling, equipment installation to interior office fit outs, as well as asphalt paving to wallpaper. Their speciality is "real time construction," where work is done in the midst of a regular working day with no interruption to the client's normal flow of business.
Some of TNT's projects at JFK include: Nippon Cargo Airlines automated cargo handling system at Building #79; numerous fit outs at Building #75; Atlas Air fit outs at Building #151; and United Airlines Cargo renovations at Buildings #22 & #22A.
