LADIES GOLF OUTING GREAT SUCCESS!
The first ever Golf outing was held for the benefit of the Ladies who work at JFK Airport was held on June 2 at the Lido Beach Golf Club. Linda certainly out performed in organizing this event.
Katsuko Inatome of the Inatome Restaurant in Valley Stream and her foursome won first place. Josephine Casillo, Consultant to Host Marriott won the prize for closest to the hole and Cathy DePhillips of Airway Maintenance, the longest drive. This Golf Outing would not have been possible without the many sponsors from the JFK Airport Community. Again, we extend our appreciation for their contributions. It is as result of our members that sponsor our many event, that we are able to be a viable organization. (See Listing below for our contributors.)
Although many people volunteered, we wish to extend a special thank you to Eva Chu of TWA.

HARRY THRASHER ELECTED CHAMBER PRESIDENT FOR 1984/1985
No, this is not a misprint. Harry who was Station Manager of Delta was elected President of the JFK Chamber. However, he was never able to serve his term as he was transferred.

The revitalization of the former JFK Plaza hotel now known as the Radisson Hotel - JFK is now a reality. Plans call for the hotel to open in September, 1998. The Radisson has become the newest member of the JFK Chamber of Commerce. Antonio Costa has been appointed General Manager of the 387 room hostelry.
Many innovative features will be introduced. The Radisson will feature "CHARLES", a 24 hour restaurant, a state of the art health club, Aviator's Lounge, and a private suite reserved exclusively for airline crews where soft drinks and snacks will be available around the clock. Weather information for pilots will have dedicated PC Computers for weather information and e-mail service will be available.
Brian Stage, president and COO of Radisson Hotels Worldwide stated that the company has spent $20 million to revitalize the hotel. The Minneapolis based Radisson Hotels Worldwide and its parent Carlson Hospitality World wide including 500 lodging locations in 47 countries plus four cruise ships sailing worldwide and TGI Friday's.
Renovations include a complete refurbishment of the property. All operational areas have been upgraded with new equipment, including the installation of a new heating and cooling system, and all public and private areas have been given a luxurious new look. New guestroom amenities include a state-of-the-art telecommunications system with in-room computer hookups.
Antonio Costa comes to New York with extensive experience having been in the hospitality industry for 34 years. We welcome him to the JFK Business Community and are pleased to add the Radisson to our membership.
The JFK Chamber of Commerce plans to host its Bimonthly Luncheon, tentatively schedule for Thursday, October 15, 1998. This will be a special program to commemorate our 20th Anniversary. The guest speaker will be Alice Borodkin, the founder of the JFK Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Donald Carey, President of Lansdell Protective Agency is pleased to announce the opening of Lansdell's seventh Regional Office, effective July 1st, 1998. It's located at: 175 Main Street, White Plains, NY 10601. Phone number is 914-761-6856, Mr. James Henry.
A federal bankruptcy judge approved a reorganization plan for Pan Am that calls for Guilford Transportation Services, a railroad company, to pay $24.5 million for the name and assets of the troubled airline. The money will allow Pan Am to pay $20.5 million to its largest creditor, NationsBank. Guilford, based in Lowell, Mass., with 1,600 miles of New England freight lines, bid for Pan Am in April after other potential bidders, including Carl Icahn, dropped out. Guilford plans to continue flying charter operations, which were launched after regular flights were canceled February 27, 1998. Scheduled passenger service may resume in about one year.
The Board Meeting was held on May 27, and was hosted by the 4-Points Sheraton Hotel. Following the Board meeting, a reception was held in the Garden for new members.
Membership Committee - Reported that we still a few members who have not renewed their membership for 1998. Invoices will be sent out to these members.
Special Events Committee - Reported on the upcoming luncheon speaker, Charles Gargano, Chairman of Empire State development and board member of the PANY&NJ who will speak at the June 10th Luncheon. Details of the All Ladies Golf outing were finalized. It was reported that the 50th Anniversary Gala event to be hosted by the PANY&NJ has been cancelled.
Hotels & Catering Committee - Roger Cespedes reported that he has been in contact with each of the hotels at JFK and they are working with us on Luncheons and other special events. He will be meeting with the new General Manager of the Radisson shortly.
20th Anniversary Committee - Phil Jensen reports that we have had a tremendous response for the Commemorative issue of the members directory. As a result the deadline to publish the directory has been delayed.
Scholarship Committee. Bill Puckhaber reported that we will award 4 tool boxes to the outstanding graduates of Aviation High. Tom Kelliher has been in contact with Mrs. Start in coordinating the awards of the Leon D. Star Scholarship to students at Far Rockaway High School.
Website and Computer Committee - Rudy introduced Nick Cetta of Shiffman Electric who is providing the expertise to get our site operational. The site is now operational and members are encouraged to check it out at www.jfk-airport.org (actually, you're looking at it right now). Shortly, we plan to announce a program where members may post information about their company, organization, products and services.
The JFK Rotary Club announced the election of Brian Early of Mid-Atlantic Securities as President for 1998/99 replacing Judi Serraino of Abbott Installations. Brian will replace Judi as Honorary Vice President of the JFK Chamber.
