CAO BRIDGING THE GAP
Every day we are made more aware of the fiscal problems of government and business. Budgets are being cut and programs and services are being discontinued. Thousands of people are being laid off including a large number of individuals who will have difficulty getting back into the system because of limited job skills for today's market. All segments of our society must accept the challenge and be prepared to provide adequate guidance, training and employment opportunities. The aviation industry and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are in the forefront of the commercial world and know of the necessity of maintaining, developing and expanding its various facilities not only for today but also for the future. It was this enlightened spirit that initially caused it to create and continually support the work of the CAO. The CAO, has maintained its position as a unique and important entity in the region. We have provided quality service to the unemployed and disadvantaged. We have worked with Federal, state, local and quasigovernment agencies, as well as the businesses that influence our region. We have provided new services that directly benefit our members and customers. The community needs the support of the aviation industry and the Port Authority more than ever before. With this continued commitment by our partners, we optimistically look into the future with a plan for growth and expansion of services. CAO TODAY Based in the heart of the Borough of Queens, the Council for Airport Opportunity (CAO) today works to recruit job candidates for positions in the aviation industry and other affiliated businesses. With nearly fifty thousand employed at the New York airports, the aviation industry represents a major economic force to the region. Staffed with professionals attuned to the intricacies of working in the high tech field of aviation, CAO is committed to guiding, assisting and preparing community residents seeking careers in this industry. Utilizing an extensive applicant review system, the Council refers job candidates that are screened and conform to the specific requirement of available positions. Candidates are referred with the required documentation to complete the ten-year background checks ordered by FAA. Now in its third decade, CAO continues to originate and provide innovative programs designed to educate and improve marketable job skills of our applicants. CAO is dedicated to its goal of maintaining a pool of qualified workers with the skills and attitudes needed to meet employer demands. Recognizing the needs for skills training for the constant influx of new applicants, CAO strives to provide programs that will enable them to become competitive in the fast-paced and complex transportation industry.
To further assist airport tenants meet the challenge of an aggressive global market, we have established an on-airport career center that specializes in customized training services. The Center is also available for small group seminars, meetings and interviewing sessions. For your employment needs, call the CAO. Our Account Executives will provide prompt, courteous and efficient service.
